Content and schedule of training course
Training course devoted to the economic use of a truck offered by us includes everything that can wear down.
TOPICS:
1. Fuel consumption. (efficient use of engine rpm and torque). An engine is being constantly developed. DAF is looking for the most precise and efficient engine setting for powering a loaded truck. Such engine has been found, but at the same time the truck driver must know how to use these possibilities. Developments bring along differences and a truck that was driven a year or two ago, for example, needed another approach.
2. Brakes. The use of brakes has a direct impact on fuel (after deceleration it is necessary to accelerate again). Choosing when it is necessary to brake and avoiding unnecessary decelerations. Additional braking systems must be used as they do not wear service brakes.
3. Tyres. Tyre monitoring (tyre pressures, etc.). Low tyre pressure is directly related to increasing fuel consumption. However, high tyre pressure wears the truck and tyre through failures. For example, faster wear of the transmission system on an uneven road, etc.
4. Aerodynamics. It may seem that wind deflectors are of little importance but in reality an improperly adjusted spoiler or an improperly fitted/additionally fitted accessory can increase fuel consumption by up to 5%. For example fuel consumption may increase by 3% when lighting is installed as an add-on in the driving direction.
5. Travel speed. Directly related to aerodynamics. The cross-section of DAF XL cabin is 10 m2. The higher the speed, the more intense is the counterforce of air forces.
6. Use of accessories. Cruise control, for example. There were times when they said that a professional driver would always be able to drive more economically than cruise control. The predictive cruise control offered to the trucks today along with the predictive shifting that takes into account the location of the truck, allows the driver and the entrepreneur to make life brighter through economics!
7. Safety and safe driving. This topic covers everything that makes the use of the truck safe. When driving safely there will be no unexpected time losses in work due to insurance cases, etc. At the same time there will be direct fuel savings if the load is properly placed and safely secured.
8. Other specific cases related to a business. For example, the specifics and location of the job. Forest transport has certainly many differences compared to road transport, etc.
In all these aspects, training course is based on the truck, working environment and wishes of the entrepreneur. We will always provide added value to the training course by giving our own recommendations.
The average duration of the training course is 5-8 hours. A maximum of 6 drivers can participate in the training course. A smaller number of drivers ensures a more personal approach and better quality. The training course is efficient when using a loaded vehicle of the company that has ordered the training course. During the training course deficiencies will be found out and they will be eliminated. All necessary data from the entrepreneur (truck, specific characteristics of work, location of work, specific aspects of drivers, etc.) are collected in advance. After analysis, an offer is made.
SCHEDULE OF THE TRAINING COURSE DAY:
Test drive. The drivers will be accompanied individually on a given route (up to 60 km). A test drive provides information on the driver’s skills to use the vehicle. The subsequent analysis is based on average speed and fuel consumption! Average duration is up to 1.5 hours.
Theory. All topics 1 through 8 above will be completed. Average duration is up to 2 hours.
Lunch. Average duration is up to 0.5 hours.
Test drive. The same route with the same truck is taken again. The driver is driving and driving takes place under the guidance of the instructor. During this drive the obtained skills are strengthened and the driver themselves achieves the desired result. Average duration is up to 1.5 hours.
RESULT:
As a result the knowledge of the driver is refreshed and updated. In real terms, the average speed increases and the average fuel consumption decreases. All this via driver’s own skills! The feedback will be requested on average after 14 days from both the truck driver and the company. Also data recording (fuel, speed, etc.) of the company’s vehicles used at the training course are checked.
PRICE LIST (unless otherwise is stated in the contract):
1. DAF truck efficient use training course in a group – price per driver €65.
2. DAF truck efficient use training course in the work environment – price per driver €100.
3. DAF truck consulting and, if possible, monitoring by the instructor during a year – price per one year €100. In case the starting point of the training course is not located in one of our three centres, transport cost of €0.20/km is added to the training course cost.
